An open and wind swept site between the Irish Sea and Black Combe set in the Lake District National Park. The site has stunning panoramic views over the topography of the Lake District.
Erosion is a concept for a purpose built café & beach facility on Silecroft Beach. The concept of natural erosion inspired our design, set in the stunning landscape of the Lake District. Our aim was to blend in with surrounding beachscape, for the building become a rock in the dunes.
The exterior and interior walls are made from wire gabions, filled with pebbles and rocks from the local area. The layering of these sediments create a natural language which acts as camouflage. The facetted form is planted with dune planting, at the rear of the building the entrance is set within a stepped landscape which is planted.
